Marvell Technology Confirms Chip Design Center Plan for Indonesia

Sutardja Family, despite the fact that they no longer have Indonesian citizenship, apparently still care with their home country. Marvell Technology Group, founded by brothers Sehat Sutardja and Pantas Sutardja, will soon execute their plan to build a microchip design center in Indonesia sometime soon. According to the original plan, this microchip design center will be executed at least in 3 years, but of course the sooner the better.

Marvell Technology currently have microchip design center in Singapore, India and China. Marvell CEO, Sehat Sutardja told Bisnis.com that he is a bit embarrassed bu the fact that there is no microchip design center in Indonesia. Marvell Tecnology currently have offices in 16 countries, with 5700 employees since its was founded back in 1995.

Related to investments in Indonesia, Sutardja said that the biggest obstacle in investing in Indonesia is the infrastructure especially for information technology. Transportation is one of the main issue as well, according to Sutardja, stating that wasting time being stuck in a traffic jam is non-productive. The other thing needed is research projects from universities in Indonesia, apparently Indonesia is falling behind in terms of research.

Currently Marvell produces over 1 billion microships per year and focuses on game console, blu-ray players, television set and cell phones. In terms of the chipset industry, Indonesia currently have Wimax chipset manufacturer xirka. xirka was founded by Sylvia Sumarlin (also the founder of D-Net) and Eko Fajar Nurprasetyo, former chipset designer for Sony LSI Japan.
