Coming Soon, “GeekFest: Celebrate the New Rock Stars!”

Last Thursday, FOWAB and Kibar Kreasi officially announced GeekFest: Celebrate the New Rock Stars! The event was announced at a press conference at the SAE Institute, fX Lifestyle X’nter, Jakarta.

GeekFest is a festival that combines music, movies, games, and multimedia technology. GeekFest also aims to raise Indonesian youngsters creative work related to technology and the people behind the scenes of the work or product.

The event will be held on 31st March 2012- 1st April 2012 at the Sasana Budaya Ganesha in Bandung. The event will invite various communities in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Malang.

Performers who will be present on the stage include, among others, Jogja Hiphop Foundation, Bottlesmoker, Windyasari, Openlabs, Hellomotion, Saung Angklung Udjo, Hebring (Main Studios), Pet Shop Box, Homogenic, Ableton Live User Group Indonesia, Project Breed, Fat Pupa, Jogjaforce, iPhonesia, Movieholic, Indie Research, Photon Project and Midi Data .

Yohan Totting from FOWAB said in a statement, “through GeekFest, we want to show young people that Indonesia has a huge potential in the creative industries. It has been much world-success work made by Indonesians but it’s not being recognized. They are indeed the real rock stars that are making creative work with international level.

Besides this event is also in accordance with the FOWAB vision and mission who want to unite or introduce people who work with the internet. With this GeekFest event, the network of working relationship will be more extensive.

Yohan also said that hopefully through this event, the various elements can connect, collaborate and work together promoting creative industries in Indonesia, at least for five elements mentioned above.

Yansen of KibarKreasi said, “GeekFest is an event that is committed to support young talents of the country to raise Indonesia’s name in the world stage. Now is the time for young people to create Indonesian original creations. We want to show that Indonesia isn’t only famous as the “factory” of famous companies abroad but we can also create our own products”. In addition, this event is also expected to encourage local content producers.

It’s not only the performances, GeekFest would also present a question and answer session with the performers about the idea of work ​​processing and production otherwise there will also be exhibitions from various communities and other participants.

GeekFest also focuses on collaboration of performances or festivals for various genres, such as music, movies, games, multimedia and technology.
