Wikimedia Holding Another Javanese Writing Competition

Wikimedia is holding yet another Javanese Wikimedia writing competition, titled Papat Limpad, which means Four Champions. The competition is intended to increase and enrich Wikipedia content in Javanese. This project is being held in collaboration with six universities that run Javanese language programs, namely IKIP PGRI Semarang, Gajah Mada University (UGM), University of Indonesia (UI), Diponegoro University (Undip), Semarang State University (Unnes) and Yogyakarta State University (UNY).

The 2012 Papat Limpad competition is being held for one year beginning 7th of May 2012 until paril 2013. During the competition, the 150 participants from six universities are required to publish articles for Wikipedia in Javanese language. The articles must use the encyclopedic style of writing and conform to the Javanese linguistic traits. Works and activities by the participants will be judged by a panel of judges which comprises of members of the organizer, Unnes lecturers, as well as representatives of the Javanese Wikipedia community.

The Republika daily quoted project director of Papat Limpad 2012, Nunung Martina, saying that the four winners announced at the end of the competition will win €500 each. The prize money comes from Wikimedia Indonesia as well as organizing partners, WIkimedia Switzerland and Wikimedia France.

At Papat Limpad 2011, the event managed to generate around 2000 Javanese Wikipedia articles. This year they are expecting to garner more articles given that there are more participants that registered in this year’s event.
