Sparxup 2012, Let’s Hit It!

SparxUp begins today. The startup conference and awarding night is set to run in 2012 for the third time, this time with a two day hackathon to take place at Binus International’s Joseph Wibowo Center campus. Tickets to the conference have nearly sold out and hackathon participants are getting ready to deliver various apps and services using the APIs provided by Nokia, Foursquare, and Evernote. In the lead up to the event, it has picked up blibli as a platinum sponsor as well as Freelancer.com as a silver sponsor.

The hackathon will run from Wednesday afternoon following keynote speeches from the head of Nokia Developer Southeast Asia, Narenda Wicaksono, Akshay Patil from Foursquare, and Tiang Lim from Evernote. Participants are expected to complete their programs by 9:00 am on Thursday with  demo session to start from 10:00 am.

SparxUp Demo Day takes place on Thursday afternoon. In years past, the winning startups have had to only present their product as a viable concept and business plan, with two selected as overall winners, but this year, to encourage better sustainability, startups that have been selected as winners will get on stage and demo their apps and services.

Unfortunately, we’ve hit a glitch in the organizing of the hackathon. Binus International, which had offered a venue at the Joseph Wibowo Center near Senayan, had completely forgot to inform building management that there would be a series of events taking place these two days.

As a result, it’s been a madhouse at the campus all morning trying to make sure the event runs as scheduled with a lot of back and forth between DailySocial, Binus International, and building management.

On behalf of DailySocial, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience that may be caused during the running of the hackathon, to the sponsors, the speakers, and the hackathon participants. It has been an absolute embarrassment to all parties concerned.
