Uganda-based ride hailing platform SafeBoda receives Series B funding from Allianz X anf Go-Ventures. This is Gojek’s second time to invest in ride hailing service outside Southeast Asia and the first for Allianz to invest in African based startup.
Not only transportation, SafeBoda also offers logistics and payment services. The series B will be used for service development and expansion.
“Our investment in SafeBoda highlighted our commitment in market growth. We’re glad to participate in ride hailing ecosystem in Africa. SafeBoda has tighten its position in Uganda’s market and we’ll support the company’s expansion plan to other country and services,” Allianz X’s Corporate Development Director, Oliver Ullrich said.
Allianz X is one of Gojek investors. In 2018, they took part in the round that involves Blibli, Astra, Google, Tencent, JD, Meituan, and Temasek resulting up to $1.5 billion.
Few months after that, Gojek announces Go-Ventures, a venture capital actively invest in startup. Their portfolio includes Kumparan, Narasi.tv, and two startups from India, Rebel Foods and MPL.
Go-Ventures investment for SafeBoda adds up to Gojek’s portfolio of ride hailing startup. Gojek was previously invest for Bangladesh ride hailing startup Pathao.
