A Note from Mindtalk AppsDay 2012 in Malang and Potential of Local Developer

Mindtalk recently held hackathons in two cities; Yogyakarta and Malang. Last week, we reported about Mindtalk AppsDay 2012 in Yogyakarta. We didn’t get the chance to attend Mindtalk AppsDay in Malang, but the event was broadcast on MIndTalk in its #MindtalkAppsDay channel and Stasion community’s official Facebook Group timeline.

Mindtalk AppsDay 2012 in Malang was held on April 14-15, 2012. The event was not that different with the hackathon held previously in Yogyakarta where developers were challenged to create an application using Mindtalk’s API for 24 hours nonstop.

Interesting thing is, the enthusiasm of participants of Mindtalk AppsDay 2012 hackathon is so high. Total participants of this hackathon reached 48 people split into 14 teams and 5 individuals and produced 14 applications in general category, Blibli apps and game. This is more than what was produced in Yogyakarta which released around 10 applications.

Below is the list of the 14 applications:
1.   Adi Nugroho – Bliblidroid (Blibli Apps Category)
2. M. Mushonif and friends – Dress Talk (General Category/Mindtalk)
3. Septiyan Andika Isanta – PINPON (General Category)
4. Nikolas Alexander and friends – Chaos Buster (Games Category)
5. Revandi M and friends – Bolatalk (General Category)
6. Augusta Bogie – Blibli for WP7 (Blibli Apps Category)
7. Zanuar Oky Vandiska – Mindtalk – MindSET (General Category)
8. Rudy Santoso and friends – Evento (General Category)
9. Rifky Aji Nugroho and friends – EMO ME TALK (General Category)
10. Edy Pang and friends – MINDBALL (General Category)
11. Adwi Arifin and friends – Pinuku (Blibli Apps Category)
12. Agung Firdaus and friends – Dip Dip (General & Blibli Category)
13. Fatkul Amri – My Mindtalk (General Category)
14. M. Zein Adi – Mindtalk For Blaast (General Category)

Just like the event in Yogyakarta, the winner announcement was also done a week after the event. You can follow the #MindtalkAppsDay channel and @MindtalkAppsDay on Twitter for update on the announcement.

From what was seen at Mindtalk AppsDay in Yogyakarta and Malang, you can probably say that developers outside of Jakarta are better skilled, more enthusiastic and have greater potential than those from Jakarta since they seem to better master their programing languages of choice. Clearly these developers cannot be underestimated.
