A Rocket Internet Company Acquires Flipit

Netherlands-based voucher code provider Flipit announced that it got acquired by Rocket Internet’s CupoNation. After the acquisition, Flipit would be designed to focus more on Southeast Asia, as it aims to be one of big dealers in the region. In practice, Flipit will remain as an independent entity and both of its co-founders will be the General Manager of the region.

We first reported the service five months ago, through an interview with its Country Manager for Indonesia Pudji Masniari Siregar. Back then, the team expected to establish more exclusive partnership with giant e-commerce players and affiliated network in Indonesia by this year.

During the interview, Siregar told us, “We want to introduce a new and interesting way to save our money while doing online transaction with them (e-commerce vendors). So, we present Flipit as an online coupon vendor where they can grab free coupon codes that can be redeemed at hundreds of online shops in Indonesia.”

The acquisition allows Flipit to collaborate with Rocket Internet’s entities in the region, including Lazada, Zalora, and Foodpanda. These exclusive partnership will be interesting since most of Rocket Internet’s startups in Southeast Asia lead the regional competition.

Flipit claimed that it is currently the biggest voucher code vendor in Indonesia. Its Co-Founders, Jochem Vroom and Jelle van der Bij, who founded the company back in 2013, will be the General Manager of Operation in Southeast Asia. The operation’s focus would be Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
