Two of Indonesia’s biggest bank is Bank Central Asia (BCA) and Bank Mandiri, and both are getting geared towards the future of payments by getting into the e-commerce scene. Just for the past year, some (seriously) big player in the e-commerce segment launches, Plasa, Rakuten, Multiply, Blibli and with the current incumbent such as TokoBagus, Bhinneka etc.
Last year was the year of e-commerce in Indonesia, but the lack of existing e-payment platform hold back the growth of the industry. And so, this year we’re expecting at least 4 e-payment solutions to be available in Indonesia : Doku, Indomog, Unik and Kaspay.
And according to a report by Marketeers magazine, BCA is preparing to launch yet another payment system, supposedly named Klikpay. The report states that Klikpay would act similarly like Paypal adapted for Indonesian market and to be launched Q2 this year.
And another rumor from Marketeers, is that Bank Mandiri is also trying to get into the e-commerce scene by launching an online store called Tokone.com. It’s basically an online store where customers can only buy the items using a Bank Mandiri credit card, a similar strategy used by Citibank with their Belibarang.com.
This is starting to become very exciting! The BIG barrier to eCommerce in Indonesia currently is payment. Great to see startups and the banks finally focusing on this.
