Currently not many photo editing applications is available for the BlackBerry. First the specs and the hardware (especially graphics card and processor) that are owned by the BlackBerry smartphone (in earlier times before a new line of mobile phone OS7) are still not as good as iPhone or Android owned by upper class; Second, from the initial allocation, BlackBerry is intended for a business communication tool instead of the entertainment or multimedia. As the result, most of Blackberry individual customers are drooling with the popularity of Instagram.
Sometimes ago we had reviewed Pikubo. Pikubo was intended to satisfy the “thirst” of BlackBerry users who want to have a qualified photo editing applications. Although it has received a fairly warm welcome, there have been no more developments after many months. There are still many problems here and there with this application. The hope to get a good photo editing application is lost.
Later this year, there is another developer who tried their luck in this field. The name of the application is Bibbycam. The name “Bibby” is perhaps one of the alternative ways to read BB and it’s catchier. Bibbycam supports a variety of BlackBerry series, including a touch version like BlackBerry Torch. Although the site mentioned that the app available in the BlackBerry App World but I don’t find it there yet. So you need to go to Bibbycam download page from your BlackBerry browser to try it.
After a few moments of trying it, my conclusion is Bibbycam is much more responsive and interesting compare to Pikubo or other photo editing application on the BlackBerry. This application is not as good as Instagram, but it works. No “laggy”when applying the effect like in Pikubo, even though I only use the mid-to-low-end 256MB RAM mobile device. You can even combine the two effects at once in a photo.
When published to social media, such as Twitter, Bibbycam will automatically upload to Twitpic so that it can directly preview. A part of that, the output of photos uploaded on the Bibbycam front page is not too disappointing.
There are 14 effects in total that can be applied, including a number of standard effects such as Lomo, Sephia, Retro, and Black & White. There is also a feature to rotate images. In addition, Bibbycam is also trying to improve its social features. You can see the latest uploaded photos from other people which are edited using Bibbycam as well.
For those who are still loyal to BlackBerry and want the photo editing tool which is quite good, I encourage you to try Bibbycam.
