Coda Payments Partners with a Fleet of Telecommunication Operators to Attract More Users

Just recently, Coda Payments claimed that it has partnered with a fleet of operators and merchants all over Southeast Asia. In fact, the startup has collaborated with Indosat, Bakrie Telecom (Esia), and Guvera music streaming platform in Indonesia. Also it partners with Singapore’s SingTel and M1 and the Philippines’ Globe Telecom.

Actually, the strategy of collaborating with cellular operators is not a new thing for Coda Payments. It had established a partnership with Axis last year to support the development of PulsaQ, even though the partnership didn’t last long since Axis was acquired by XL Axiata (XL).

Coda offers a fun way of doing online shopping by providing a simple payment process in less than 10 seconds, without having to get through any registration process at all. This service is called the Codapay. It allows users, both pre-paid and post-paid, purchasing digital products through the carrier billing system. As we delivered in our previous article, it only takes four simple steps to complete the payment process, just like using our own credit cards. For comparison, it takes 10 steps to pay through ATM, and 7 steps through Internet Banking.

Further, the partnership has enabled Coda assisting Guvera n launching its own carrier billing program last July, which eases customers of all operators, excluding XL, to directly add the music streaming service fee to their bills.

Besides partnering with Guvera, Coda has also established partnership with Chinese giant Baidu, mobile game developers Gumi and Efun, and Thailand-based Winner Online.

Coda itself is a startup which is based in Jakarta and Singapore, with engineering team located in Jakarta. So far, the startup has successfully sealed a number of funding, including from GMO Global Payment Fund, Rakuten, and Cyber Agent Ventures.

“There are more than 100 thousands of consumers in Southeast Asia have successfully completed their transaction with Codapay. By extending this partnership, there would be even more users to taste the convenience and easiness of shopping through their own mobile,” Neil Davidson, Coda’s CEO, stated.
