Mobile Game Developer War 2 announced the Virtual Pet game as the winner. This game is made by Creacle, a research group of several Computer Science students from University of Gadjah Mada (UGM).
From the news release by UGM mentioned that Creacle sent two teams following Mobile Game Developer War 2 event this time. In addition to the Virtual Pet, who won with 153.840 downloads, it also include the Kite Runner game that finished at the 4th place in the event.
In an interview via email, Creacle explained that the name came from words: Creative Circle, a research group founded by five students; Gathot Fajar, Firdaus Ismail, Irkham Huda, Eko Nugraha and Rifauddin Tsalitsy. Creacle was originally established around September 2011 in order to enter the INAICTA 2011 competition. Creacle have managed to become a finalist with the game called Green Guard. After that, it released a lot of simple games, especially in Nokia S40 platform. Some of those games were included in several events. It also included their game at Mobile Game Developer War where it become a finalist and Mobile Game Developer War 2 which it eventually won.
DailySocial has covered Creacle when they appear in the Gamelan 3rd event. At that time, Creacle said their vision is to develop the game across all platforms with local content. This vision proved to them as it released the game in the Pandava Series. This new series consist 2 games, Arjuna the Archer and Bima the Conqueror. Later, it planned to release The Legend of Gatotkaca for Mobile and Nakula Sahadeva In The Labyrinth.
Currently Creacle hold it’s activities in CoderSpace Jogja. From 5 Founders, now having 12 crews and they are all students. In addition to develop games for Nokia S40 platform, now Creacle also began developing games for Windows Mobile. As a student, Creacle team try to balance between lectures (so they can graduate this year) with efforts to develop Creacle becoming a professional game studio.
Creacle development is worth to wait, especially when Creacle become a professional game studio. Because this time, Creacle got supported by the college and faculty. When it finally completely separated from the name of UGM Computer Science, support from the campus also will begin to decrease and Creacle will be truly independent. And of course, the game business world will be different from it’s current research studies.
