Event Report: Gedebuk – Game Developer Buka-bukaan (Game Developer Reveals) [Video] – Updated

Last weekend, visitors of Bandung Indah Plaza (BIP) were presented with a display and exhibition of local games as part of Gedebuk – Game Developer Buka-bukaan (Game Developer Reveals).

This event is the result of a collaboration between BIP Gedebuk community and Agate Studio as the initiators of Gedebuk. The event was held on March 17-18, 2012 at Bandung Indah Plaza (BIP).

The agenda includes exhibitions from a couple of local game developers’ work – on display via video presentations and banners on main venue and around the mall, as well as several gaming facilities which can be played by guests; there are card games and board games as well as several mobile and PC games made by Agate. Visitors can also get information about games – the process of game making, especially games made both by Agate as well as other local game developers.

Aditia Dwiperdana, initiator of Gedebuk, as described in the press release, said that Gedebuk is a community for learning, sharing knowledge and experience in creating games with people with the same passion in the field of game development. Developer community is focused online via Gedebuk.org. Although initiated by Agate Studio, this community is open to all developers and those interested in the gaming world, as a place for those interested in developing game to be able to learn together. This community is also trying to fill the space not filled by other communities, so it can walk hand in hand with other community because what is offered is different.

For me, the event was quite interesting, though I only attended the first day and the main venue was not too big, at least it was enough to pass on additional information about game and local developers tp the mall’s visitors. The info banners around the mall also helped in marketing the event. While Agate Studio still received a larger portion, considering it is the initiator the initiator and also organized of this event, because Gedebuk is open, we can look forward to other studios or local game developers to be highlighted as well in the next event, not just through video description and information banner but also featured as games that can be played by visitors and other design elements.

It also interesting, when I asked Dwiperdana about how they could be working with BIP. It appears that BIP is actually having game and gadget as this month’s theme, and they contacted Agate to fill the game theme slot, which led to so they invite Gedebuk community for this 2 days event. Game related events other than Gedebuk will also be present to spice up the thematic month at BIP.

Interesting to me, because a lot of game developers, especially the ones playing in the mobile segment like Agate are increasingly recognized by the owner of the brand – for example, the mall. Of course, I – and maybe you, can look forward to our society becomes familiar with local game developers as well as the variety of games they produce and more keen to play their games.

Here’s the brief interview with Aditia Dwiperdana and video coverage of the location and atmosphere of the event.

Update: There are some coreection on the article I had done, including corrections to the event organizers as well as some other details.

Gedebuk is a separate community of Agate Studio is intended to accommodate -for entry level – for the game developer or those who are interested in learning the game, especially those who are just learning. As an early stage, Agate Studio trying to initiate the Gedebuk community, they will also invite other game developers to contribute to Gedebuk. Gedebuk itself also plans to hold various other events.

Gedebuk on the mall event yesterday was the result of collaboration between the Gedebuk community and Agate Studio. Agate also has cooperation with BIP to fill the game theme slot at the mall.
