Free Version of Two Games from Aksara Studio Reach Thousands Downloads

Do you still remember Aksara Studio? DailySocial interviewed two of three founders of Aksara Studio at Mobile Game Developer War last June. That time, they explained about Waroeng Ekspress Jawa and Petualangan Aksara Jawa games and also their preparation to release Waroeng Aksara Jawa (sequel of Waroeng Ekspres).

When we interviewed them, their game has been downloaded around 1.000 downloads. The most interesting is that the English version also downloaded by Vietnam and India users, as stated by Jeffrey Hermanto Halimsetiawan and Alexander Raharjo. Now, the Waroeng Ekspres sequel, that is the free-of-charge version of Waroeng Ekspress Jawa, has reached more than 10.000 downloads in one month and still downloaded more and more.

From its Aksara Studio Facebook Page, it is informed that the other game they developed, the free-of-charge version of Petualangan Aksara Jawa (PAJ) has been downloaded around 10.000 times with more than 1.000 download every day. PAJ also has a sequel that is Petualangan Aksara Bali which is available in Ovi Store for only Rp. 3.000.

Aksara studio provided two versions of games mentioned previously. Unfortunately, there is no information about the number of downloaded games for paid games. I have tried to contact Aksara Games but they haven’t replied yet. However, TeknoJurnal ever wrote about Waroeng Ekspress Jawa games which is in best seller game on Ovi Store, although no exact number informed.

Off course the number of downloaded version of free-of-charge version is bigger, but it still give chance for Aksara to get income from the paid version. At least, they can introduce their brand as game developers who produce favorite games.

Game industry in Indonesia develops day by day. In addition, by the mobile platform using cellphone and tablet like Android and iOS also Nokia, Blaast and some other platform, makes the development of mobile games is improving. Local developers in this segment are growing in numbers. Some of them are getting investors, like NightSpadeSoybeanSoft (which decided to work on mobile games) and TouchTen. Each of them is having users’ favorite games. Not only local players, foreigner players also see this chance, including Indonesian market. One of the proofs is the visit by Square Enix to Bandung, Jakarta and Yogyakarta to hold game competitions that as collaboration with Mikti. There is also the news about support from big companies like mig33 to local developers.

Games Idea Competition also held from game studio, that develops mobile game. Agate Studio with Kummara develop a competition called “Indonesia Bermain”, in which DailySocial also become one of the media partners.

Talk about game downloading, Urban Fatburner from Agate Studio has reached more than 200.000 downloads, iOS game developed by NightSpade called Stack the Stuff also got download big response when they launched it. TouchTen has just received $ 1 million dollar investment, It is famous game (based on downloads), Hachiko HD.

Aksara Studia may enjoy their success on the number of downloaded games and the support from Nokia on their mobile game application. On the other hand, iOS development is also liven up, at least more and more local market play, although it is surely a global competition. However, Indonesia-local element can be a good strategy for game element or market. In addition, Android and Blaast also attract developers to develop their games, and Playbook does the same.

Therefore, each developer can concentrated in certain platform to develop each platform, market chance can be seen and executed based on the company target. I am sure, in the future, I can see the increasing number of application (game) download.
