Getting Downloaded 5 Million Times, foodpanda Strengthens Its Position in Mobile Platform

In the midst of its attempts to win Indonesian market, foodpanda never misses any chance to level with the global market, especially the mobile segment. In fact, this subsidiary of Rocket Internet recently announced that its mobile app has been downloaded 5 million times worldwide. At the moment, the platform has been available in no less than 45 countries, including Asian, European, Middle Eastern, and African countries.

So far, foodpanda, which works on online food delivery, can be accessed via desktop web and mobile app (it’s compatible with iOS, Android, and Windows Phone). According to the latest information we received, most of foodpanda users prefer to access the platform via mobile apps rather than desktop web. To support this argument, a press release that we received suggests that 60% of foodpanda’s global orders come from mobile, with Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and Russia become the main contributors. From all operating systems that support foodpanda, Android comes out as the most popular one, since 62% of total users prefer to download and install the Android version of the platform. Moreover, the fact that users may pay the services online also strengthens foodpanda’s bargaining position.

In response to this positive trend, Ralf Wenzel, foodpanda’s Co-Founder and Managing Director, said that mobile platform indeed is foodpanda’s focus when it comes to dynamic markets in developing countries, where Indonesia isn’t an exception.

“We are living in revolutionary times whereby people start to spend more time in front of their mobile phone screen rather than in front of a TV or in front of a desktop computer, especially in Emerging Markets. Mobile is the key access channel for media and online services going forward. Mobile fits our strategy to offer food delivery and take-away at any time, for everyone and everywhere and it allows us to directly engage with customers whenever they get hungry: In front of their mobile phone. The future of food ordering is mobile and we are best positioned for this,” said Wenzel.

Well, he’s right. With such growth, it’s quite obvious that foodpanda will always keep looking to upgrade its performance in mobile platform.
