Nokia Lumia Developer Day event from 4th – 5th February 2012 have been completed. The event attended by more than 800 participants from various regions of Indonesia.
This event was held by Nokia and Microsoft to welcome the official presence of Nokia Lumia 800 and 710. It was an event for the ecosystem development in Windows Phone platform (the application).
Yesterday event was quite interesting; especially for coding business – beyond the material – it started at 7 pm until morning. I don’t know for sure if the amount of contestants in the last 24 hours is the same with those who have followed the seminar from morning until afternoon, but there was no significant change in terms of number. Almost all seats are filled and the participants follow this coding event for more than 15 hours until the next morning.
According to the organizers, there are about 173 applications at the coding closing session and the applications submission. From these 173 applications, only 21 were selected. At the end, 8 applications (chosen by Narenda Wicaksono, Coach Co-ordinator and Irving Hutagalung) were qualified as the winner and got one Lumia phone 800 each.
Narenda Wicaksono Developer Outreach Manager of Nokia South East Asia has explained that the criteria selection are including: complextivity, user Interface, local flavor and API Usabilities .
The winners came from ITB, IPB, UIN Jakarta, Telkom IT, UI, Buzzle Technology, ORG.com, Radylabs and Chocoarts.
Below are the application winners (a short description can be seen in the video):
BuzzleMall – ITB – Buzzle Technology
CitizenHero – IT Telkom
TheGarbager – ITB
GoGoKeto – UI
Movieblist – ITB
ShelterView – UIN
Spothemall – ITB
Puppet Solitaire – IPB
As described by Irving Hutagalung in an interview published in previous DailySocial article; developers, ecosystem and application development are becoming the important factor. A program like this surely might attract the developers to develop applications and it can be an introduction event for those who want to try developing mobile applications.
In Windows Phone Marketplace, the application becomes more important. The number of applications available can be compared to other platforms such as Android or iPhone and perhaps even in the Nokia Store. Moreover, Indonesia is still pretty new to the existing product in Windows environment which is partnering with Nokia. Nokia is still in preparation for launching Lumia products series to Indonesia market. Currently it’s still in the pre-order stage. Nokia and Microsoft’s brand attachment with Indonesian customers could be one of the advantages for having this platform known by customers and developers.
Marketplace is available for Indonesian users. Developers also can create and market their applications to local costumers. More details on this can be seen in this article.
Irving in a conference last Saturday also explained that the application opportunities aren’t only for the B2C segment, but developers can also develop a B2B application. The opportunity to develop applications for the B2B market is wide open. Irving even described that now there’s a demand for developing B2B applications in Windows Phone platform.
A similar program, a developer day, will always continue to be implemented. Narenda explained that Lumia Developer Day Event held in Bandung is a prefix for the next developer-related events that would be held by Nokia together with Microsoft. It’s planned to be held at various universities in Indonesia.
Nokia also had Lumia Apps Challenge. It’s for the developers who want to get free Lumia but not having the opportunity to attend the dev day yesterday. They could get Lumia (as a loan) for developing the application and after three applications available in the Marketplace, Lumia can be owned by the developer. Information about this can be seen here.
I don’t know exactly the quality and experience for using dev day winning applications, but from a brief description of the award winners yesterday, the existing applications seem pretty interesting. A name like BuzzleMall also has presented at the Jakarta Ventures Night 2012 sometimes ago.
From the developer side, I hope that the winning application can be developed further and is available in the Marketplace. Thus, the developer can develop the studio and their work for further.
