Spotify Will Expand to Asia

Aulia told me about news that is I am waiting for. Eventhough I have to wait for the next phase but it might be the opened door.

As written on TechCrunch, Spotify has hired former Google to lead the expansion to Asia. The article explains that former Google executive, Dan Brody, becomes General Manager Asia-Pacific.

Alexia Tsotsis on the article stated that Dan Brody is searching for the candidates for Spotify employees to be placed in Hongkong, Singapore, and Sydney.

Spotify is an on-demand-streaming music service. We can listen songs from their collection, which are around 15 million songs with support from 4 big recording company. Users pay the monthly service about $5 and $10 for mobile devices per month (data retrieved from Businessweek Indonesia magazine, 18-24 August 2011).

Spotify service is now available in the US and after previously available in some European countries like UK, France, Spain, Nederland, Swedish, Norway, and Finland.

Boldly speaking, I hope that this facility can be available in Indonesia, as I mentioned in my previous article that music service needs refreshment, and what has done by Spotify can be one of the inspiration. Although there are many similar services (in foreign country), but  I am stuck and interested more on what Spotify doing. May be it because of the influence of Daniek Ek, Spotify founder, moreover after the integration of this service with Facebook.

Actually, I hope that there will be local (Indonesia) services in music segment can bring new ways to enjoy music. There are some but I do not find them interesting or maybe they provide music collection that does not make me interested.

Surely, there are many questions come up. Besides there is no clear strategy in Asia yet, we still do not know whether the service will be available in Indonesia or not. Moreover, the problem of internet access speed and subscribing culture will be the serious problem that should be solve by Spotify.

I and my colleagues at DailySocial feel interested in music issue including the news about Spotify plan to penetrate in Asia market. We are going to dig up the information from the Indonesian market. So, see you in the next article.
