British Academy of Film and Television Arts Archives

British Academy Games Awards telah jadi bagian dari perhelatan BAFTA sejak tahun 2004. Acara ini digelar untuk menghargai pencapaian-pencapaian kreatif penting di industri gaming, biasanya dilaksanakan setelah ajang utama British Academy of Film and Television Arts usai. Dan di tanggal 12 April kemarin, ‘BAFTA Games Awards 2018’ baru saja dilangsungkan di London.

Seperti DICE Awards ataupun Golden Joystick Awards, di sana penyelenggara mengumumkan para pemenang setelah sebelumnya mereka menyingkap judul-judul yang jadi finalis. Walaupun kategori kemenangannya berbeda dari ajang pemberi penghargaan lain, satu aspek tetap sama: pasti ada pengungkapan permainan terbaik. Berdasarkan daftar di atas, Hellblade memenangkan lima penghargaan, lebih banyak dari penghargaan yang diterima oleh Super Mario Odyssey dan Breath of the Wild. Hal ini sangat menarik mengingat game indie garapan Ninja Theory itu hanya dikerjakan oleh tim berisi sekitar 20 developer. Jika Anda belum sempat memainkannya, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice cuma dijajakan seharga Rp 200 ribu di Steam.

Mulai 1998, British Academy of Film and Television Arts memutuskan untuk mengakui video game sebagai jenis hiburan yang memberikan cara baru dalam mengekspresikan kreativitas. Ada banyak event pemberian penghargaan bergengsi diadakan tiap tahun, namun sejauh ini status BAFTA belum dapat tersaingi. Dan di akhir minggu lalu, diumumkanlah para pemenang BAFTA Games Awards 2016.

Di ajang lain, nama-nama familier berkali-kali memperoleh apresiasi, namun BAFTA Games Awards 2016 cukup berbeda. Permainan-permainan garapan developer indie tampak menguasai belasan kategori. Judul-judul blockbuster memang jadi nominasi, tapi mereka bukan juaranya. Terlepas dari itu, salah satu permainan open-world terbaik terpilih buat membawa pulang gelar Best Game – sebagai judul pertama di seri itu yang memenangkan BAFTA.
