Google launches the latest product aimed at data saving Datally. This app becomes Google’s first series to make Next Billion Users.
After research on Indonesia’s mobile phone users, Google found most people worried on how quick the data runs out. They mostly unaware on what the data used, it is hard to control.
It is considered important, particularly to the next billion users accessing internet on daily basis.
The presence of Datally (Data Tally) is expected to help users in understanding, controlling and saving internet quota, users can save data and use it for other purposes.
“Our mission in Google is to innovate and create products to help Indonesians maximize internet potential,” said Caesar Sengupta, Google’s Next Billion User VP on Thursday (11/30).
There will be other new products in the future prepared by Google to achieve the target. Although not specifically mentioned, Sengupta confirms Google’s products that soon to be announced as “Google Station” free Wi-Fi that will be available in Jakarta.
Datally has been tested in Philippines throughout the year. However, it will be available in Indonesia’s Play Store starts from Nov 30 and globally spread after that. This app is compatible in all android devices with OS version 5.0 (Lollipop) and up. Datally is a small-sized app, only need 6MB of your storage. Related to monetizing, Sengupta believes Google have not thought that far. Currently Google still provides Datally for free. At the moment, they are not to bring Datally into App Store.
Indonesia as Google’s source of inspiration
Indonesia and other developing countries, such as India, Brazil and Philippines are Google’s source of inspiration in product creation. In fact, Google consider every product launched in Indonesia will be a global success.
Sengupta reveals Indonesian’s characteristics, such as youth, early adopter, mobile first and willing to try new products are considered very helpful in fastening the product-making process.
“This characteristics is very helpful for Google in getting feedback and facilitating product development. It is the reason of many Google’s products first launched in Indonesia, are quite successful globally.”
Datally Features
Sengupta continues on Datally’s four main features designed according to user needs. First, data-saving feature to enable user in controlling data usage everytime they open an app. This feature claimed to be able to save 30% data by using Datally.
Secondly, data-saving balloon, just like speedometer for data package. It allows users to see real-time data usage when opening an app. Users can restrict data usage to avoid overuse.
Third, data administrator feature to be used in monitoring consumed data per day, per week or per month.
Lastly, Wi-Fi finder feature allowing users to find nearby Wi-Fi networks. Once connected, users can rate Wi-Fi based on their experience. This rating will be useful as recommendation platform for other Datally users.
