BRTI Expects to Deploy Messaging Indonesia Before End of 2013

The push to deliver an Indonesian mobile messaging solution by the Indonesian Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (BRTI) continues amid collaborations by local telcos with foreign messaging companies. Temporarily dubbed Messaging Indonesia, the effort is expected to reduce consumer reliance on foreign services. BRTI is working with three major mobile carriers to develop this service.

Can Telcos Take on KakaoTalk and Friends?

With Telkomsel and Indosat announcing the development of their own messaging apps based on the GSMA-approved Rich Communication Services (RCS) standard, Indonesia is about to join countries like Singapore, South Korea, and Spain in rolling out an industry upgrade to the aging SMS. In the meantime, their customers are being drawn away and their revenues siphoned out by communication services companies.

Industri Telekomunikasi Mobile Seharusnya Bisa Mengantisipasi Meningkatnya Tren Layanan OTT

Bulan Februari lalu, Badan Regulasi Telekomunikasi Indonesia (BRTI) mengumumkan rencana untuk membangun dan mengimplementasikan platform messaging mereka sendiri yang akan menggantikan teknologi SMS yang kian usang. Langkah tersebut jelas merupakan reaksi dari banyaknya aplikasi yang berfungsi menggantikan salah satu layanan utama dari telko. Telkomsel dan Indosat secara terpisah telah mengumumkan rencana mereka untuk mengembangkan aplikasi serupa.

Mobile Carriers Could Have Anticipated The Rise of OTT Services

Back in February the Indonesian telecommunications regulatory body (BRTI) announced plans to build and deploy its own messaging app platform to replace the aging SMS. The move was clearly an attempt to counter the onslaught of applications that substitute the core mobile communications services offered by mobile network companies. Indonesian telcos, Telkomsel and Indosat, have separately announced their plans to develop such an app.

Indonesian Telcos Building Messaging Solution to Compete with the Likes of Viber, Line, WhatsApp

IndoTelko is reporting that BRTI, the Indonesian telecommunications industry regulator, along with local mobile operators are working on a plan to deliver “Messaging Indonesia”. Messaging Indonesia is expected to be a solution to a cross platform instant message and multimedia document delivery network which works across multiple carriers.The concept is similar to WhatsApp as well as other messaging solutions, but with domestic routing which is expected to reduce operational costs for carriers and offer an alternative solution to customers.
