Telkomsel and RIM Brought Mobile Campus for Universitas Pelita Harapan

Don’t want to be beaten by innovation of Sony Ericsson and Universitas Bunda Mulia (UBM)’s M-Campus, Telkomsel and Research in Motion (RIM) Indonesia as principal of BlackBerry announced Mobile Campus for Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH). The app is developed by Better-B and said only took three months to be completed.

Quite different to what is offered by UBM’s M-Campus — which is bundled with certain product, this UPH’s M-Campus app can be downloaded freely by any UPH student from this link http://uph.better-b.mobi. It supports OS 4.5 as minimum requirement.

As cited from Okezone [link in Indonesian], VP Channel Management Telkomsel, Gideon Edie Purnomo, explained the very reason why Telkomsel is collaborating with RIM for this project is based on consideration that BlackBerry is now the most common smartphones used by Indonesians, especially youngsters. IT Senior Director UPH, Reynier Wayong, strengthened this argument by claiming nearly 90 percent of 10 thousands student in the campus are using BlackBerry.

M-Campus: A Collaboration of Sony Ericsson and Universitas Bunda Mulia

The innovation made by Sony Ericsson and Universitas Bunda Mulia (UBM – Bunda Mulia University) is quite interesting. By bundling the phone with M-Campus app, they bring solution of academic system for UBM students that ran on top of Android. The bundled phone is Xperia X8 which is not that expensive. Sony Ericsson has prepared around 200 pcs of Xperia X8 as pilot project which already had M-Campus installed. These phones will be granted to freshmen, but the receptors are fully objected to UBM policy.

What is served by this M-Campus? According to Danny Johannes, Director of Marketing and Development UBM, as stated through Okezone [link in Indonesian], “The app can be utilized by UBM students to check their GPA, lecturer’s presences, lectures and exams schedules, and so on.”

M-Campus: Kerjasama Sony Ericsson dan Universitas Bunda Mulia

Inovasi yang dilakukan oleh Sony Ericsson dan Universitas Bunda Mulia (UBM) ini cukup menarik. Dengan mem-bundle ponsel dan aplikasi M-Campus, keduanya memberikan solusi sistem akademik untuk mahasiswa UBM yang berjalan di platform Android. Ponsel yang di-bundle dengan paket ini adalah Xperia X8 yang tidak terlalu mahal. Sony Ericsson telah menyiapkan 200 ponsel khusus sebagai pilot project yang sudah terinstalasi aplikasi M-Campus ini di dalamnya. Nantinya kriteria mahasiswa baru seperti apa yang bisa memperoleh ponsel ini menjadi kebijaksanaan UBM selaku pengelola.

Apakah yang bisa disediakan oleh aplikasi M-Campus ini? Menurut Danny Johannes, Direktur Pemasaran & Pengembangan Universitas Bunda Mulia, yang dikutip melalui Okezone, “Aplikasi ini bisa digunakan oleh mahasiswa UBM untuk mengecek nilai IPK, daftar hadir dosen, susunan mata kuliah, jadwal-jadwal ujian, dan lain-lain.”
