Google Introduces Google Go and Files Go in Indonesia to Facilitate New Internet Users

Google creates a buzz to help users in developing countries, such as Indonesia, by launching Google Go and Files Go. Both application are designed based on user study results in Indonesia. They are part of “Next Billion Users” program, after launching Datally few days ago.

Google Go is a data-saving Google browser app for mobile devices with limited Wi-Fi or connection, while File Go is an app to help users send and receive files offline and help to sort the storage for faster access.

In official statement, Google Go is based on research in 170 cities in Indonesia and India. The new internet users tend to use simple mobile device with 512MB to 1GB storage capacity, including unstable connection. Google Go is made to work faster in mobile device with low-storage RAM and 2G network.

In details, Google Go offers an interface to help user in browsing, supported in many languages and front-page personalization to make it easier for browsing.

In terms of capacity, Google Go is efficient. It can also work well using only 5MB storage. Thanks to Google’s innovation technology development for compression in providing instant access despite in 2G network. The thing can be a solution for public users with no access of fast and stable network.

Files Go on the other hand, is designed to help user in sorting their storage. Its features are claimed to be able to help organize and clean the storage slot, making device performance remains comfortable.

Files Go can also be used in sending phone-to-phone files in close range, similar to iOS’s AirDrop, speeding up to 125Mbps without any internet data used. Another data attached is backup feature or cloud backup.

Data Saving App Datally Starts Google’s Commitment In Making “Next Billion Users”

Google launches the latest product aimed at data saving Datally. This app becomes Google’s first series to make Next Billion Users.

After research on Indonesia’s mobile phone users, Google found most people worried on how quick the data runs out. They mostly unaware on what the data used, it is hard to control.

It is considered important, particularly to the next billion users accessing internet on daily basis.

The presence of Datally (Data Tally) is expected to help users in understanding, controlling and saving internet quota, users can save data and use it for other purposes.

“Our mission in Google is to innovate and create products to help Indonesians maximize internet potential,” said Caesar Sengupta, Google’s Next Billion User VP on Thursday (11/30).

There will be other new products in the future prepared by Google to achieve the target. Although not specifically mentioned, Sengupta confirms Google’s products that soon to be announced as “Google Station” free Wi-Fi that will be available in Jakarta.

Datally has been tested in Philippines throughout the year. However, it will be available in Indonesia’s Play Store starts from Nov 30 and globally spread after that. This app is compatible in all android devices with OS version 5.0 (Lollipop) and up. Datally is a small-sized app, only need 6MB of your storage. Related to monetizing, Sengupta believes Google have not thought that far. Currently Google still provides Datally for free. At the moment, they are not to bring Datally into App Store.

Indonesia as Google’s source of inspiration

Indonesia and other developing countries, such as India, Brazil and Philippines are Google’s source of inspiration in product creation. In fact, Google consider every product launched in Indonesia will be a global success.

Sengupta reveals Indonesian’s characteristics, such as youth, early adopter, mobile first and willing to try new products are considered very helpful in fastening the product-making process.

“This characteristics is very helpful for Google in getting feedback and facilitating product development. It is the reason of many Google’s products first launched in Indonesia, are quite successful globally.”

Datally Features

Sengupta continues on Datally’s four main features designed according to user needs. First, data-saving feature to enable user in controlling data usage everytime they open an app. This feature claimed to be able to save 30% data by using Datally.

Secondly, data-saving balloon, just like speedometer for data package. It allows users to see real-time data usage when opening an app. Users can restrict data usage to avoid overuse.

Third, data administrator feature to be used in monitoring consumed data per day, per week or per month.

Lastly, Wi-Fi finder feature allowing users to find nearby Wi-Fi networks. Once connected, users can rate Wi-Fi based on their experience. This rating will be useful as recommendation platform for other Datally users.

Aplikasi Penghemat Kuota Datally Awali Komitmen Google Wujudkan “Next Billion Users”

Google meluncurkan tambahan produk baru yang ditujukan untuk penghematan kuota Datally. Aplikasi ini menjadi rangkaian awal Google untuk mewujudkan Next Billion Users.

Setelah riset terhadap pengguna ponsel di Indonesia, Google menemukan bahwa pengguna ponsel banyak yang khawatir paket kuota yang terlalu cepat habis. Mereka juga tidak paham untuk apa saja kuota mereka digunakan, karena kesulitan mengontrol penggunaan kuota.

Hal ini dinilai sebagai hambatan yang cukup penting, khususnya bagi miliaran pengguna berikutnya yang akan mengakses internet untuk kebutuhan sehari-hari, atau disebut Next Billion Users.

Kehadiran Datally (Data Tally) diharapkan dapat membantu pengguna dalam memahami, mengontrol, dan menghemat kuota internet, sehingga pengguna bisa lebih menghemat dan melakukan lebih banyak hal dengan kuota.

“Misi kami di Google adalah terus berinovasi dan menciptakan produk yang bisa membantu masyarakat Indonesia memaksimalkan potensi internet,” terang VP Tim Next Billion Users Google Caesar Sengupta, Kamis, (30/11).

Ke depannya akan ada produk baru lainnya yang tengah disiapkan Google untuk mewujudkan target tersebut. Meski tidak disebutkan secara detail, Caesar hanya menuturkan dalam waktu dekat produk yang sudah diumumkan Google seperti layanan Wi-Fi gratis “Google Station” akan hadir di Jakarta.

Datally ini sebelumnya telah diuji di Filipina sepanjang tahun ini. Namun baru tersedia di Play Store secara perdana di Indonesia mulai (30/11) dan mulai digulirkan ke pasar global setelahnya. Aplikasi ini berfungsi di semua ponsel Android dengan minimal OS versi 5.0 (Lollipop). Kapasitas yang dibutuhkan Datally juga cukup ringan, hanya sekitar 6MB.

Terkait monetisasi, Caesar menilai Google belum memikirkan ke arah sana. Sejauh ini, Google masih menyediakan Datally secara gratis. Google pun belum memiliki rencana untuk membawa Datally hadir di App Store.

Indonesia sebagai sumber inspirasi Google

Indonesia dan negara berkembang lainnya India, Brazil, dan Filipina dinilai sebagai sebagai sumber inspirasi Google dalam menciptakan produk baru. Bahkan, Google menganggap setiap produk yang diluncurkan pertama kali di Indonesia akan sukses ketika dihadirkan secara global.

Caesar menerangkan beberapa kebiasaan orang Indonesia seperti anak muda, early adopter, mobile first, dan mau mencoba produk baru dinilai sangat membantu Google dalam mempercepat proses pembuatan produk.

“Perilaku tersebut sangat membantu Google dalam mendapatkan feedback dan mempermudah kita dalam develop produk. Makanya banyak produk Google yang pertama kali hadir di Indonesia, dan cukup sukses saat dikeluarkan secara global.”

Fitur Datally

Caesar melanjutkan ada empat fitur utama Datally yang didesain sesuai kebutuhan pengguna. Pertama, fitur penghemat kuota, memungkinkan pengguna mengontrol kuota yang digunakan setiap kali membuka aplikasi. Diklaim fitur ini dapat menghemat kuota hingga 30%, bergantung pada cara mereka menggunakan Datally.

Kedua, balon penghemat kuota seperti spidometer untuk kuota. Memungkinkan pengguna dapat melihat secara real time kuota yang sudah mereka konsumsi setiap membuka aplikasi. Pengguna dapat memblokir penggunaan kuota apabila aplikasi tersebut sudah terlalu banyak mengonsumsi data.

Ketiga, fitur kelola data yang dapat dimanfaatkan pengguna untuk memantau kuota yang sudah dikonsumsi secara per hari, per minggu, hingga per bulan.

Terakhir, fitur temukan Wi-Fi memungkinkan pengguna dapat menemukan jaringan Wi-Fi terdekat. Setelah terhubung, pengguna dapat memberi rating Wi-Fi berdasarkan pengalamannya. Rating ini berguna untuk memberikan rekomendasi kepada sesama pengguna Datally.
