[Manic Monday] Books Might Disappear, But The Words In It Won’t

When was the last time you read a book? How many times have you read a book for the past month, say compared to, the amount of articles you read on the internet, or from social media feeds? I probably read only one book a month, and usually science fiction. Everything else is gobbled up in small bites through articles on the Internet here and there. I don’t think I have enough bandwidth in my head to keep up reading more books, either by quantity or quality or genre. I still buy books and try to collect books by my favorite authors, but even my reading habit has started to move over to Kobo.

Publishing on Windows Phone Marketplace According to Puja Pramudya of Radya Labs

A few days ago we highlighted an issue with the Windows Phone Marketplace. A Slovenian developer, Matic Bitenc blogged about his difficulties in publishing his app called Toshl on Windows Phone Marketplace. Bitenc pointed at the lack of access for Slovenian developers even though Marketplace is already available to customers in the former Yugoslavian republic. As a result, Bitenc had to submit his app using a Microsoft Slovenia account.

We dug in to find out whether this is happening as well in Indonesia. The country already has its own Marketplace which debuted alongside the Nokia Lumia. We contacted Puja Pramudya, co-founder and developer at Bandung-based Radya Labs which specializes in Windows Phone platform. Radya Labs is arguably the most prolific Windows Phone app developer in the country, publishing apps for itself as well as for clients.

We asked Pramudya about the status of Windows Phone publishing in Indonesia and this is what he has to say about it.

[Music Monday] The Darker Side Of Digital Music And Why iTunes Store Dropped Indonesia

Many people are not aware the complex structure that sits in what is vaguely known as “the music industry”. For many people, what is seen through the media is the musician, artist or songwriter (albeit not as often), and sometimes a mild mention of the music label here, a record producer there, and sometimes the supporting musicians of  a certain album. But actually, a clockwork between songwriters, publishers, record producers, music labels, distribution channels, artists, and countless other people and bodies are involved in an intricate (and often confusing) dance. So, what happens if that clockwork breaks down?

Makko.co – Online Comic Magazine

It’s not easy, conquering publishing world. That’s what I got from my 3 years experience in publishing. But with the internet era, the publishing world can get a glimmer of hope.

I myself saw some steps getting there as NulisBuku.com did. In comic world, I think for publishing comics offline is now just as hard. I witnessed some local offline comic publishers (independent or form a business entity), struggled to promote their published comics offline, with quality just as good as foreign comics.

But with the Internet, the cost of printing can be slightly resolved, at least in terms of distributing the work of comics which they do not have to wait for printing publication but can be uploaded to the internet. The site which also develop a community other than the comic itself is also growing rapidly, such as Komikoo and Ngomik, which are several times discussed in DailySocial. Now with a slightly different approach, Makko.co officially released to the public.

NulisBuku Invites Everyone To Become An Author

Finally after a few months waiting, NulisBuku launched their Self Publishing platform. NulisBuku was a partner of KutuKutuBuku, one of the most popular online book store in Indonesia run by serial entrepreneur Ollie. It sounds like a good synergy between one of the most popular online bookstore and a self publishing platform.

One interesting phenomenon  in Indonesia, is that several prominent blogger ended up launching a book based on their blog and several bloggers actually kicks ass with their books. This phenomenon maybe influence the founders of NulisBuku to grab these seasonal writer and turn them to a professional writer and make serious money out of it. The good thing is, the deal with book author is pretty tempting compared if you land a deal with big conventional publisher. Authors get 60% royalti fee for every book sold, while with conventional you can get 50-50 deal, if you’re lucky.

Amazon Siap Membayar Blogger
