The launching of video on demand mobile app Moovigo becomes the latest Telkomsel’s gimmick for the sake of its attempts to attract millions more users by relying on the 4G/LTE network. Having been available on Android platform, the app is planned to enter iOS, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry 10 as well.
Telkomsel’s Video and Music GM Tengku Ferdi Febrian stated that Moovigo is a one stop video service which provides video clips and branded videos on demand, with some of the app’s top content are Disney and Marvel-themed videos. In the near future, Telkomsel will also add more channels like sports, children, education, music, and entertainment.
Despite the fact that its coverage area and theoretical speed are still extremely limited, Telkomsel keeps encouraging its users to make use of the 4G/LTE network, which gives users much more speed than 3G does, thus making it’s possible to watch videos practically anytime and anywhere. As a matter of fact, the local titan has just announced that 30.000 of its users have already possessed the SIM card which is compatible with 4G/LTE network. So far, Telkomsel’s LTE network is available only in Jakarta and Bali Island.
Interestingly, Moovigo will indirectly compete with UseeTV, which is developed by the same parent company, in to steal people’s heart with on-demand content. However, unlike UseeTV, Moovigo will focus more on foreign sources, especially after it has successfully partnered with Disney. To download the app, Telkomsel’s users may go directly to Google Play Store or access *500*90#.
To beautify the product, Telkomsel rewards an unlimited access to Disney Movie on Demand for one full month to those who subscribe themselves to Telkomsel’s 4G/LTE Bundle Package. This promotion will last until March 2015.
Well, the development of 4G/LTE technology is indeed inevitable. Ericsson even once predicted that the technology will play a significant role in the television broadcast distribution in the future.
