Winners of MIKTI and Square-Enix Game Ideas Competition

MIKTI announced winners of game ideas competition for mobile phones (Android) in collaboration with Square-Enix. MIKTI-Square Enix Game Idea Competition 2011 was held at the end of last year and its selection made since September 2011. DailySocial had attended the promotional event of this competiton at ITB in August last year.

After the selection period, judging and announcement of 10 finalists, finally 3 winners were selected and officially announced. In a press release on MIKTI’s official site, the announcement actually had been done in March but apparently the press release was not made available on MIKTI’s official website until April.

The three winners are Whizzy Wazzy (Manticore Studio) as the champion, Beat The Flooder! (Hendri Kusuma Firdaus) as runner up and Buzway Bhablass! (Manticore Studio) as second runner up. The winners will receive prizes totaling US$3,000.

Square-Enix chose Indonesia from several countries that they surveyed to solicit ideas, concepts and applications on mobile games, which eventually brought them to work with MIKTI to hold this competition. The competition was intended for games for Android handsets with minimal operating system 2.1 and 4’ – 11’ screen size. Some points to consider in this competition is the game should have a social element in it, must be a single download game, then the idea or the game should never been published before and the idea or the game must be available to be exclusively published by Square-Enix.

Three winners were selected from the selection of 121 works that later became 20 game ideas that was judged in Japan by Mr. Honda Keiji, Executive Vice President and Representative Director, and Mr. Haraguchi Yoichi, Senior Executive Managing Officer from Square-Enix and finally 10 finalists were chosen before 3 winners were selected. The 10 finalists are Busway Bhablass! (Manticore Studio), Graviton (Bliss Garden Production), Operation: Snowblood (Over Nine Thousand), Project Agent-C (Adhi Christanto Lilis), The King of Familiars (PT. Nightspade Multi Kreasi), Whizzy Wazzy (Manticore Studio), Mighty Carrom (Aji Prastowo), 17/8 (Asekai Group), Beat The Flooder (Hendri Kusuma Firdaus), The Hobby Shop (DAV Studio).

The three winners are expected to be able to develop the prototype into a world quality game, and enhance the existing features inside the game. Square-Enix will later decide whether to launch and promote the mobile game in Indonesia and worldwide.

So, I think it’s worth to wait for further news from the winners. Meanwhile, MIKTI has its own plan to hold a Game Idea Competition 2012, still in cooperation with Square-Enix.
